Have Book Will Travel 2013 Summer Reading Open House



On Wednesday, June 5th from 1:30 to 4:30 pm The Combined Arms Research Library will be launching its Summer Reading program, “Have Book will Travel”. Come join the DOD incentive to encourage children and teens to read throughout the summer! Over the course of seven weeks, the library will have activities that entertain, promote healthy habits, and support a love of reading!  There will be a weekly incentive to encourage reading! The excitement continues thru July 31st .

The kickoff Open House will be on June 5th from 1:30-4:30 pm and will feature five stations of fun located throughout the newly renovated library!




Station #1: Welcome –Participants will receive their summer reading bag holding their first reading log, promotional materials for reading log raffles and the summer reading extravaganza, as well as a bookmark, pencil, and summer reading wristband.  Participants will also receive a raffle ticket, which they must fill out with required information in order to be contacted should they win one of the drawings during the Open House!
 

Station #2: Favorite Places – Attached to the glass wall to the right of the circulation desk will be a large map of the world.  Using colored stickers, participants will place a dot on their favorite place that they have lived or visited. 


    


Station #3: Mail a Postcard  Travel postcards that children can write on and send to anyone they see fit.  Postage will also be available.




 
 
Station #4: Let’s Travel! – Outside the children’s room will be 12 clear containers labeled with different locations (Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower, etc.) and various ways to travel (fly, bicycle, etc.).  Participants will vote for where they would like to go and how they would prefer to travel by dropping a colored stone into the container of their choice.  The winners will be displayed in the children’s room for the remainder of the summer reading program.





Station #5: Treats – In the children’s room there will be cookies to eat and a magician/balloon artist combing the room, speaking with children, making them animals or hats out of balloons, and performing tricks!
