Rose Under Fire, by award winning author Elizabeth
Wein, is the companion book to Code
name Verity. It continues the
World War II story of amateur poet Rose Justice, who is captured by the Nazis
and sent to a women’s concentration camp.
Both books contain riveting stories for our teen-age audience.
Rose is a
young girl who does not seem to stand a single chance against the Nazis
interrogators. Though trapped she is
inspired by other women in the camp; a female fighter pilot, a young Polish
girl and a once famous French novelist. Through loyalty, bravery and strong
resolution, Rose is determined to survive.
Elizabeth
Wein was born in New York, but currently lives with her family in
Scotland. She is a pilot of small planes
and holds a PhD from the University of Pa.
